The Nikon Z 8 Mirrorless Camera is equipped with the power of the Nikon Z 9 in a smaller, lightweight modular design. It has the same 45.7MP stacked CMOS sensor, vibration-free electronic shutter, and 120 fps burst shooting as its predecessor. As the ultimate hybrid camera, the Nikon Z 8 Camera can also capture internal 8K video at 60p or 4k video at 120p. You’ll have the versatility to use one of the dozens of NIKKOR Z mount lenses, or pair the Nikon Z 8 with the Nikon Mount Adapter FTZ II for even more lens options. Whether you shoot action sports, portraiture, or wedding videography, the Nikon Z 8 is the multifaceted tool you need in your kit.
This is everything you want in a full-frame hybrid camera. Image quality, precision, flexibility—and a compact, lightweight body. Video to stills. Commissions to passion projects. Don’t just create. Thrive.
The Z 8 brings the feature set of the Z 9 to a body that is 30% smaller than the Z 9 and 15% smaller than the D850. The 45 MP stacked CMOS sensor and impressive dynamic range. The phenomenal deep-learning AF system, and a subject- and eye-detection hit rate you can rely on. The blackout-free Real-Live Viewfinder and 4-axis tilting touchscreen. Video, stills, or both. You have the freedom to innovate while the Z 8 reliably nails every frame.
New ideas, tight budgets, fast turnarounds. Small setup or a full rig. However and wherever you create, the Z 8’s flexibility will keep your projects flowing. Record stunning 8K or 4K video straight out of the camera at an array of frame rates, including slow motion. Capture exquisite 45.7 MP stills even if shooting by starlight. There are separate display interfaces for video and stills, and menus rotate if shooting vertically.
The Z 8 full-frame mirrorless camera is built to travel wherever your ideas take you. Full, high-performance weather sealing reliably keeps out dust, dirt, and moisture. The same cold tolerance as both the D6 and the Z 9 means you can shoot reliably in temperatures down to 14°F. Come rain, come ice, come snow-you can still go.
Compact & Lightweight. Hold the camera more comfortably and move around more smoothly. Take advantage of a lighter camera system when shooting on a gimbal, with fewer cables and less setup time.
Expandable with Accessories. Nikon proudly partners with leading innovative brands to minimize the gear you need for a shoot and bring the best experience to the Z 8.
Skin Softening. Easily make skin look its best while keeping eyes and hair tack-sharp. Works for up to 3 subjects in a shot.
Portrait Impression Balance. Simple, precise control over the hues and brightness, all optimized for skin tones.
Improved White Balance. Manual adjustments are faster and more intuitive, and Auto WB has been optimized for human subjects.
Eye AF for Videos and Stills. Lock on to the eyes of people, pets and birds, even when they’re small in the frame, covered by hair, glasses or goggles, right-side up or upside down.
Custom Focus Areas. Wide-area AF offers 20 custom options for defining your focus area.* Ensure the bride and groom are in sharp focus, even when wedding guests are in the foreground.
Enhanced Low-light Focusing. Subject detection and AF work all the way down to -6.5 EV. Activate Starlight Mode, and focus all the way down to -9 EV.
Illuminated Buttons. Major buttons are softly illuminated for easier operation in the dark.
Image Frame Display. Easily confirm your composition with a thin line indicating the image frame.
Viewfinder Brightness. Optimize the brightness of the EVF with Lo1 or Lo2 to reduce eye strain.
Warm Display Colors. Preserve your night vision with warm red menu tones and reduced brightness.
Starlight View. AF detection range expands to -9.0 EV (in photo mode, AF-S, ISO 100, f/1.2 lens, 20°C/68°F) and display optimizes for confirming of point light sources.
More Light Gathering. With the largest full-frame mount of any mirrorless system, Z series lenses have larger rear elements that deliver more light to the sensor.
Reduced Focus Breathing. Many NIKKOR Z lenses all but eliminate focus breathing, maintaining a consistent viewing angle while pulling focus in videos.
Faster Lens-to-Camera Communication. The wide diameter of the Z mount accommodates more communication points, enabling larger amounts of metering and autofocus data to be shared between the lens and camera.
Attach the FTZ II Mount Adapter (sold separately) and use over approximately 360 Nikon F-Mount lenses with no loss of image quality and all the benefits of the Z 8’s extraordinary sensor, image processing and in-body image stabilization.
The Z 8 has 5.5 stops of 5-axis image stabilization built right into its body (6.0 stops when using a NIKKOR Z lens that supports Synchro VR). That means even prime lenses get the benefits of VR for steadier video footage, more low-light capabilities and sharper results overall.
Two USB Type C Ports. One USB data connector (SuperSpeed USB) for file transfers and connecting accessories, another dedicated for charging and providing constant power.
Network Menu. Dedicated tab giving you quick access to key settings.
1000BASE-T Wired-LAN. The USB Type C data connector port supports IEEE 802.3ab gigabit Ethernet with a compatible adapter.
2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi®. Upload images to a secure FTP server straight from the camera.
